marble duct
a 1970s building in campo de ourique, made compelling by its verticality and quiet simplicity. the ground floor and basement are occupied by an outdated indian restaurant, which has colonized the rear yard with a cathartic tangle of exhaust ducts climbing across the façade. by opening courtyards and introducing a new south-facing body of terraces, held by a marble column, the project expands the living areas and restores spatial quality, light, and a renewed relationship with the exterior. the ground floor and basement are reimagined as a duplex apartment with a shopfront, while the top floor becomes a duplex crowned by a habitable attic.
